Walker Pest Management is one of many family-owned pest control companies run by its owner Caleb Walker. Their home offices are located in Greenville, SC, but their service area is much larger. They offer professional pest control, termite control, and realty inspections services to all of upstate South Carolina down to the Midlands.
Along with some of the best pest control practices, they are also experts in crawlspace ventilation with self-controlling vents and fans and can treat and inspect the crawlspace areas of your home for moisture remediation and dry rot too.
It’s nice to see a pest control company branch out and provide a secondary service that doesn’t involve just pest control. Why not have an expert that can go under your house and check for termites and then come back and give you a full rundown on your moisture problems? Oftentimes moisture levels relate to some of the worst infestations in the pest control services industry.
Another feature that really struck me is that this company offers one time services. So many pest control companies require you to sign up for a year service and have penalties for ending the service early.
It is refreshing to find a company that will just come out and deal with the problem for you without having to commit to a year’s worth of service upfront. Hopefully, they decide to maintain this practice as a permanent feature of their company.
While some of their reviews sit at a stunning 4.9-stars, my research shows that not everyone has the same glowing opinion about this company. Other review sites set this company much lower at a 3 or even a 3.5-star review. This caused me to delve a bit deeper and to find out the cause.
While the residential customers for Walker Pest Management seem very content with their service, the commercial pest control services of this company seem to be lacking in value.
One customer review, in particular, stood out to me. This review talks about getting a heat remediation treatment for bed bugs as a commercial account only to have them sprout back up again in a year because they were not able to be home for their follow up inspection and Walker wouldn’t reschedule the appointment. There were several others that also talked about having to miss work because of Walkers’ “hard” set time frame.
I’m a reasonable person and I’ve been in the pest control business for several years and I can tell you that this is unacceptable and throws a huge red flag up in my mind. It is essential that a business find a way to accommodate their customers.
Customer can’t make it today? You move the appointment to another day. Especially when it is something as serious as bed bugs.
Besides their lack of flexibility for their commercial accounts, they also lack anything defining or unique in their pest control techniques. However, many people report that their pest control technicians are exceptionally punctual and very professional.
In addition to this inflexibility, the customer also reports that the technicians used a handheld heater unit without the owner’s permission in the treatment of the bed bugs causing the device more wear and tear on their personal property. Quite honestly this is inexcusable and doesn’t come anywhere near the kind of best practices one expects from anyone that they hire.
Walker Pest Management seems to deliver excellent service when it comes to taking care of its residential customers but they certainly have a ways to go in the general pest control industry for their commercial clients. At the end of the day, what keeps your company afloat is what your customers think of you and your business.
Walker Pest Management seems to really deserve their 4.9-star rating for their residential clients but falls much closer to an average rating of 3 or 2.5-star rating when it comes to commercial accounts. I think it is only fair to mention that they do have an A+ rating from the BBB meaning that they are at least putting some effort into interacting with their customers in a positive way.
One should bear in mind that this rating is most likely just what the BBB is able to observe from the company’s response to customers’ online reviews and not how customers are interacted with when no one is watching.
I think it is important to remember that there are two sides to every story and that all reviews and ratings should be taken with a grain of salt as we can not see the entire picture.
Also, in most cases, the complaints that I have found usually spoke very highly about the technician and the issues that the customer had were with the office. This writer truly hopes that they will learn to be more flexible for their clients in the future and continue to improve as a company.
Which Pests Does Walker Pest Management Cover?
Walker Pest Management pest control company offers services for bed bugs, cockroaches, fire ants, hornets, mosquito control, termites, termite control, termite inspections, termite treatments, silverfish, yellow jackets, flea control, spiders, mice, and rats for residential customers.
For commercial customers, they offer ant control, rodent control, rodent exclusion, flying insect control, cockroaches, and other pests. What these other pests are I could not tell because they do not take the time to cover them. I would presume that they are the same as the list for their residential clients.
They also have some limited wildlife control services. This seems to only include the removal, clean up, and exclusion of bats. I have to say that I am impressed that they also offer the cleanup service as part of their wildlife control service as some companies make you do the cleanup yourself.
This is a decent spread of service options and should cover most types of infestation and problems that you will encounter as a residential customer but it seems a little lackluster for any potential commercial clients.
How Expensive Is Walker Pest Management?
This company is the exception with advertising its cost. They actually give a small rundown or example of how much it will cost for their service. Their prices will depend entirely upon what service you’re asking for and the size of the home.
Walker Pest Management offers standard to high rates for their services. Homes 2500 sq ft and smaller fall into the standard pricing. Their typical monthly pest control cost is $33 which of course comes out to 99 dollars a quarter. This price goes up if the house is larger than the aforementioned square footage but they don’t say by how much.
They also offer a very reasonable initial treatment which really sets them apart from everyone else. The average initial treatment is going to cost you between 90 to 125 dollars but they offer the same service for thirty-three dollars. Having seen what their quarterly costs are this is an exceptional deal, perhaps even one of the best that I’ve ever seen.
Another factor that will determine your price is the severity of the infestation. If you have a small problem then, of course, the service will cost less than if you have an overwhelming problem.
I do want to add that my research shows that they seem to be a little high on bed bug prices at the cost of 1.25 dollars per square foot for their heat treatments.
The average size of a 1 bedroom apartment is around 575 square feet. That means this company would charge you around 718 dollars and the average generally falls into the 600 dollar range.
Is Walker Pest Management Pet Safe?
People love their pets. To most families, their pet is a member of the family. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a fish, parrot, dog, or cat. Because of this state of life, I often spend a great deal of energy into finding out if a pest control service has any special precautions or methods that make them more pet-safe than anyone else.
Just like most other companies, Walker Pest Management uses pesticides and the majority of pesticides are safe if they are used correctly and unsafe if they are used in a manner that is not in accordance with their label. As always I highly recommend that you take the time to speak with your technician before any pesticide company treats your home inside or out.
Does Walker Pest Management Offer Free Inspections?
This company, as far as I can tell, does not offer a free inspection. However, with a very reasonable price of 33 dollars for an initial service, I don’t find this to be a huge problem. They do give you a free estimate over the phone and give several guidelines on their website.
